MS Powerpoint Viewer is a slimmed down free version of MS Powerpoint that allows you to open pre-created power point presentations. I don't quite understand what you are saying is happening, but It sounds like it is asking you were the file is; in which case you just navigate to were it is saved on your hard drive.
However, if you need to modify the power point, MS PowerPoint VIEWER will not let you do that. Instead I suggest you use a Free Open Source program called Open Office.
http://www.openoffice.org/
Click "I want to download OpenOffice.org"
then click "Download Now"
It is free and it can read and save in Microsoft format. Open Office Impress is equivilant to Microsoft Power Point.
Once Open Office is installed, To open a pre-existing PowerPoint file, either:
1. Find the file on your hard drive
right click %26gt; Open With %26gt; Open Office
or
2. Run Open Office Impress
Start %26gt; Programs %26gt; Open Office %26gt; Open Office Impress
When the "Presentation Wizard" comes up just click create. (makes a blank power point)
Then click File %26gt; Open and find your file.
To save in microsoft format go to:
File %26gt; Save as
click on the "Save as Type" drop down menu and select "Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (.ppt)". If you are opening an existing PowerPoint, you will NOT need to do this.
When you save, It may warn you that the document contains features or attributes that cannot be saved in a microsoft format. That is fine just ignore the warning.

Click on the round circle left side of your task bar
In the box type PowerPoint. You should get the application and not the viewer. In your case, you might see two links, try both since I can't tell you which one to select.
Just know that if you did not purchase PP you only have the trial version and it will run out and you won't be able to do anything else with it until you purchase. How do I open Microsoft PowerPoint on a brand new Dell computer?

If you are seeing power point view this shows that you do not have full feature Power Point for editing and creating power point files. You have only reader version.
You just have the viewer, you need MS-Office for the full version of PP...
