How would you replace the motherboard and CPU of a dell inspiron 4150?

I am updating a dell inspiron 4150 thats motherboard bit the dust, so i would like how to go about replacing, the motherboard, and installing the CPU on this computer model? It would also help if i were told good places to buy parts, like a how to identify processors i can use, and were to get them cheap?

the only chance to find a new motherboard and cpu is on ebay. not a single retailer (neither Newegg nor Tigerdirect) does sell laptop motherboards. as far as i remember, Dell did solder the cpu at this time on a separate little board so it's not possible to get a standard laptop cpu (very clever from Dell, so they could sell replacement parts for a fortune).

You MUST replace your PSU as well or you will fry your motherboard with the Dell PSU. This is due to the fact that a Dell PSU has its wiring turned around where the main power cord harness hooks into the motherboard. Yes their backwards fitting harness will fit into your new motherboard so beware!!!! Also be prepared to buy a hacksaw with a steal cutting blade as the new power supply might line up differently ever so slightly but enough that you might need to do some cutting and drilling. This might sound like a lot on the table for you but it is doable as I have done this myself many times with both a Dell and Gateway computers.



Last, I would go to newegg.com to get your new computer parts. Many times they will price both a known good motherboard and known good processor which takes out the dilemma of knowing the best processor to buy. Their eggsperts know what they are doing.
