How much should I pay for a 3 year old Dell laptopn?

My coworker is selling her gently used approx 3 year old Dell Inspiron laptop. Model:PP23LA It has 446 Ram and 64 GB hard drive. She is asking $150. Is that a fair price? Also, is it possible to upgrade the ram so it will be faster? Having said that, it would depend upon what you will be using it for. I don't think it will handle much more than the usual day-to-day functions/software like web surfing/email, word processing, etc. The video is known to 'stutter' when playing DVDs (due to the low end processor and the ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 chipset).



You could max out the RAM (2 GB) for about $40 and upgrade the HD to a Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive (recommended as an upgrade by Dell) for $55 (see Newegg links below).



Having said all that, if you make upgrading the RAM a priority and won't be using it for high-intensity video like gaming, then I'd say yes, $150 seems fair. BUT . . . be sure you:



1. get ALL accessories, cables, Dell disks, COA's, etc.

2. get ALL passwords (for Users AND Administrator)

Yes you can upgrade the ram memory modules, go to http://www.crucial.com and run the tool to find what it has installed, max ram memory system will support, correct memory modules to use for upgrade.

You should ask her to transfer ownership with Dell for the lap top and operating system and ask if she has a set of operating system recovery disc and get a receipt.
