Why does it feel like I can't get a deep breath? Allergy, anxiety?

I've been having breathlessness and chest pain all week; went to the ER Thursday, everything was normal. They did bloodwork, an Xray and an EKG. The doctor gave me Xanax because he felt like it was anxiety. Monday I thought I was completely back to normal... no pain or breathlessness... until ~3AM. Suddenly felt very short of breath and was up all night (didn't sleep til 6pm next day) feeling like I was not getting oxygen. Tingly in my hands and face and felt like my lungs were tired and sore and I was absolutely terrified to the point of tears. Went to the cardiologist at 12 that day and had an episode in the office, but they said my BP and oxygen were normal. My heart was in perfect shape and he suggested the episode was anxiety related because my lungs sounded fine. I also had a full body itchy rash and I still have it today.

My parents said this sounds like an allergic reaction to something. Doctor said my breathlessness sounded like anxiety. Took a Xanax when I got home so I could sleep without being disturbed from my breathlessnes and it worked, but it knocked me out. What does this sound like? I am an 18 y/o female with muscular dystrophy but no diagnosed health problems besides this. Why does it feel like I can't get a deep breath? Allergy, anxiety?
If all tests reveal normal findings, this may be an anxiety-related attack. With regards to your rashes, have you eaten or been exposed to something you are allergic of? If yes, then your allergies might have triggered the shortness in breath. Have you tried drinking some antihistamine or medicines for your allergies? Take in some, and see if symptoms subside. I hope you get well soon. Why does it feel like I can't get a deep breath? Allergy, anxiety?
I answered one of your other questions; you are going through some similar stuff I went through. I have md too and had a lot of anxiety related to breathing and my heart; not saying yours is anxiety though. If everything was normal when it happened in the doctor's office then it's possible you may have an underlying anxiety problem. The rash you mention could indicate allergies; do you have any problems with certain foods? I also have coeliac disease and this caused me iron and b12 deficiencies which can result in anxiety symptoms as the body is constantly trying to recover from exposure to gluten and one of my main symptoms was a rash on my knees and knuckles.

Hope you feel better soon.
